====== What Is The Universe? ====== The Universe has shifted around over the years as people join and leave, but some common threads have always existed in the environments we try to create and the passions that motivate us. First and foremost, we try to create a feeling of "home" for our campers and visitors. We like to create social areas that encourage conversation, kitchens that are functional and well-appointed to support communal cooking, and space for art, music, dance, acrobatics, cuddling, and more. We love music, and also love peace and quiet. While we usually bring a sound system, we don't call ourselves a "sound camp" and the music we play tends to be less "dance party" and more "afternoon barbecue party" (although this isn't a firm rule!) We love art, color, and lighting. We try to decorate our campsites to feel more like a temporary home than a set of tents, and we love to light up the night with decorative lighting and hypnotic light shows. We encourage a sense of sharing and community both in our camp and the wider events. Examples include sharing food and cooking for each other, sharing tents and equipment, encouraging passing participants to come hang out with us, and volunteering to help make the events possible. Finally, we care about the safety and well-being of our campers and try to foster an environment where everyone can learn about each other, enjoy the events together, and support each other when needed. ====== Principles ====== We ask that all camp members follow two principles: - Do your best to contribute to making the events that we attend happen, and to make others feel welcomed, inspired, safe, and comfortable both in our camp and in the wider event. - Do your best to contribute to making our camp work, and making it awesome. Share your time, resources, and skills as you are able, and take opportunities to collaborate, teach, learn, and grow.
