Firefly Packing List

This list is a guideline for what you should plan to bring to Firefly. You don't have to bring everything on the list, and there are probably things not on the list that you want to bring.

We suggest that you label your belongings with your name / identifier or some other identifying system. If you will not be personally responsible for loading in and out any of your gear (i.e. if you will be putting it on a communal vehicle or someone else's vehicle), you should also label your belongings with “The Universe” in addition to your name/identifier.

Firefly also has a packing list on their website that you can refer to: http://fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/packing-list/

Sleeping / Eating / Living

  • Tent, sleeping hammock, etc (if you don't have other sleeping arrangements)
  • Tarps
    • If you are bringing a tent, you should have at least two tarps – one to put under it, and one to put over it. Even if you have a rain fly, consider bringing a tarp to put over your tent in order to create a dry “front porch” area and provide some extra protection against heavy rain.
  • Sleeping bag / foam / air mattress / cot
    • Keep in mind it can get somewhat chilly at night
  • Pillow, blanket
  • Ear plugs / face mask
  • Camp chair
  • Water bottle / camelbak / etc - a bottle that you can carry hands-free (e.g. with a carabiner) is very handy
  • Cup / mug - ones that clip to your belt are nice, a single cup that can handle both hot and cold drinks is also nice. Carrying around a cup allows you to accept gifts of drink from various places throughout the event.
  • Plate / bowl / etc.
  • Silverware / spork / chopsticks
  • Camp food for the week - check the food logistics spreadsheet for details. Please bring any food items that you cannot live without, since that's the only way to 100% guarantee that they will make it to the event!
  • Water for the week - most people use between 1/3 and 1 gallon/day at Firefly. Keep in mind that water is also used for washing/cleaning in addition to drinking! Note that this now only applies to NECTR; Firefly has drinking water on-site
  • Snack bars / trail mix / etc to keep in your day pack
  • Spray bottle / mister / washcloth for keeping cool

Personal Items

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, etc
  • Deodorant
  • Contact / eye care supplies
  • Toilet paper – The porta-potties will be stocked with (cheap) toilet paper, but it's sometimes nice to have your own supply
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Wet wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • Lip Balm
  • Bug spray - but treating your clothes with Permethrin can be even more effective
  • Basic first aid supplies – We will have some communal camp supplies but it doesn't hurt to have your own.
  • Medications (OTC and prescription)
    • Please let the camp know if you have an allergy or other medical condition that may come up at Firefly (e.g. epilepsy, etc). If you don't feel comfortable letting the camp know, please at least fill out a medical bracelet available at the greeter station so that first responders can find out your details in the event of an emergency.
